In Year 6, we have started a powerful and moving new book: Anne Frank by Josephine Poole and Angela Barrett.
Through this beautifully illustrated text, we have been delving into the life of Anne Frank and learning about her family’s experiences during World War II. The children have been exploring what daily life was like for Anne as she and her family spent two years in hiding in the Secret Annex in Amsterdam.
Anne received her diary as a gift for her 13th birthday, and she named it “Kitty.” She wrote in it regularly while in hiding, and it has since become one of the most important and widely read books in the world.
Earlier this week, the children worked collaboratively to create informative posters about Anne Frank and her life. Working in small groups, they carried out their own research using a range of secondary sources, carefully selecting key facts about Anne’s childhood, her time in hiding, and the historical context of World War II.
