What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is additional finance given to publicly funded schools in England targeted specifically to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

Level of Funding

Pupil premium funding is paid to schools according to the number of pupils who have:

Been registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years
A parent in the Armed Forces
Been looked after for one day or more, are adopted, leave care under a special guardianship order or a residence order

Principles

At The Minster Junior School we ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all pupils.
We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, this includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are specifically assessed and addressed.
In considering provision for socially disadvantaged pupils we recognise that not all pupils eligible for FSM will be socially disadvantaged. We also recognise that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are eligible for free school meals.
Pupil Premium funding will be allocated based on a needs analysis, reflecting these considerations and which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals.
As a school we love music, the arts and sport. We want to give all pupils opportunities to participate in and enjoy a number of different creative activities.
Supporting pupils and families to overcome personal barriers which will help them both in the immediate and in the long term

At The Minster Junior School, we have used the additional funding provided through the Pupil Premium scheme [PP] in a variety of ways, with groups of targeted students so that those supported by the grant are making accelerated progress and that gaps in students’ progress and attainment are closing. Whilst many of the activities are targeted specifically towards students who are entitled to PP, The Minster Junior School operates an open-access policy wherever possible.
