Philippe Petit (born August 13, 1949, Nemours, France) is a French-born high-wire walker who attained worldwide celebrity on August 7, 1974, with his crossing between the newly built twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, about 1,350 feet (411 meters) above the ground.
